PSCU Ready to Race for a Miracle with the Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run

St. Petersburg, Fla. – (March 31, 2016) – All the preparation and training is over and it’s almost time for the athletes to head off on Washington, D.C.’s signature running event, the Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run®. Through the major financial support of PSCU as a lead partner and the hard work of hundreds of volunteers, all the gear, support and entertainment for the 15,000 runners has been prepared. And when the race starts at 7:30 a.m. on April 3, those runners and all the sponsor credit unions will have contributed over $505,000 to the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, an international, non-profit organization that helps to treat millions of children across the U.S. and Canada.

The Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run®, is one of the Credit Union Miracle Day (CUMD) Family of Races this year, which includes over 1,500 runners at the Credit Union SacTown Ten-Mile Run in Sacramento‚ Calif., also on April 3‚ and over 1,000 runners at the two Freedom Ten Mile Runs for our troops – one on April 3 at Camp Arifjan, Kuwait, sponsored by the Defense Credit Union Council, and another on April 16 at Wiesbaden Army Garrison, Germany, sponsored by Andrews FCU.

Although the races are held in Washington, D.C., Sacramento, Calif. and overseas, the money raised is distributed based on where the contributions are collected. Funds raised support the entire network of the 170 Children’s Miracle Network hospitals. To date over $7.5 million has been donated to Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals in local communities all across the nation through the races.

“PSCU is honored to serve as a lead partner and help finance this very special event that helps so many children around the country receive the treatment they need,” said Chuck Fagan, PSCU President and CEO. “The Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run is the perfect opportunity to increase awareness on Capitol Hill about the dedication that credit unions demonstrate to help their local communities thrive.”

Capitol Hill is very involved with the Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run, with over 200 U.S. Senators and Representatives serving as Honorary Race Chairs and nearly 800 Congressional staffers participating in the race. Since 2002, there has been a “bragging rights” contest within the broader Credit Union Cherry Blossom race where members of Congress and their staff compete against each other. It is sponsored by the Congressional Federal Credit Union and the United States Senate Federal Credit Union; with support from the Credit Union National Association and the National Association of Federal Credit Unions.

PSCU proudly sends a team of runners to take part in the excitement and challenge of the Washington, D.C. competition. The teams are comprised of employees from all PSCU locations, selected in a company-wide lottery.
