CUNA Mutual Group and PSCU Collaborate as Lead Partners for Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run

CUMD Extends Race Title Sponsorship for Three Years

WASHINGTON – August 23, 2016 – Credit Union Miracle Day (CUMD), the title sponsor group of the Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run®, is pleased to announce CUNA Mutual Group and PSCU have signed on as lead partners for the nationally recognized event. CUMD recently committed to a three-year renewal as the race title sponsor, ensuring credit union brand prominence and recognition for 2017, 2018 and 2019.

“We are thrilled to have a three-year commitment with the race organizers to be involved in this amazing athletic event and to have our partners, CUNA Mutual Group and PSCU, add their talent and energy to make an even greater impact at the local level with Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals and on the national level with Congress. The renewed partnership furthers the power and strength of this unique credit union initiative,” said Theresa Mann, CUMD Chair and President/CEO of The Partnership FCU.

“The PSCU team looks forward to continuing to work with CUMD to not only finance an event that helps children around the country get the treatment they need, but also to elevate awareness among national lawmakers and their staffers about credit unions’ dedication to their local communities. With a new Congress taking office after the fall elections, there will be an even greater opportunity to spread the word about the credit union difference,” said Chuck Fagan, President/CEO of PSCU.

Capitol Hill is very involved with the Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run, with over 200 U.S. Senators and Representatives serving as Honorary Race Chairs and nearly 800 Congressional staffers participating in the race.

“Since CUMD’s inception, CUNA Mutual Group has enjoyed 15 years of engagement in this event that has given back to all Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals nationwide to the tune of $7.5 million,” said Robert N. Trunzo, President/CEO of CUNA Mutual Group. “We were one of the CUMD founding sponsors, and we remain committed to supporting this race and the credit union movement. What better way to gain national exposure for the credit union movement while helping kids being treated at premier children’s hospitals,” Trunzo added.

The race is a part of a Family of Races which includes the Credit Union SacTown Run in California; a Freedom Run at Camp Arifjan in Kuwait, sponsored by the Defense Credit Union Council; and a Freedom Run in Wiesbaden Army Garrison in Germany, sponsored by Andrews FCU.

Since 2002, the Family of Races collaboration has donated more than $7.5 million to Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals under the umbrella of Credit Unions for Kids.

"I am excited about continuing our long-term partnership with credit unions. For 15 years, the Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run has benefited from the amazing level of credit union involvement in the race. This partnership also allows us to continue building on the $7.5 million that has been donated during the credit union era for the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals," said Race Director Phil Stewart.

The 45th running of the Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run will take place Sunday, April 2, 2017. The race course is a fast, flat route around iconic memorials in the nation’s capital and attracts world-class runners. The race is known as the “Runner’s Rite of Spring” and is on Washingtonian Magazine’s bucket list of “things to do in Washington, D.C.”
