the World Council of Credit Unions in 2009, the goal of the GWLN is to provide credit union women with the opportunity to network and make a measurable difference in the lives of each other, in the lives of members and within their communities.

Since establishment, GWLN has grown to more than 2,600 female and male members with nearly 100 chapters (sister societies) in the U.S. and internationally in 18 countries, has provided 52 scholarships to women from 22 countries, and raised over $2.5 million to make a measurable difference for credit union families, according to the World Council.

“Congratulations to all our volunteers and supporters for the incredible momentum in 2018,” said Susan Mitchell, founding chair of the Network and CEO of Mitchell, Stankovic & Associates, during a recent GWLN strategic planning session with sister society leaders.  “We need to think big in 2019 to grow our membership and build our brand to create scale that will enhance our impact locally and globally.”

And the Winners Are

During the strategy session, GWLN announced Andrea Rusnak, VP of Account Management at PSCU, had been named winner for the 2018 Emerging Leader Award. This award recognizes the accomplishments of an emerging female leader working in the credit union movement, making a significant impact on the industry and advancing the mission of GWLN. The presentation of the award will be at the Global Women’s breakfast event at the 2019 GAC in Washington, DC on March 13, 2019.

Also at the same event, GWLN said the 10th Year anniversary HE for SHE Recognition will be made to four individuals who have contributed to the network through their leadership and outreach, scholarship development, fundraising initiatives and continuous commitment. The four recipients of the special recognition are: 

  • David Doss, CEO, OneAZ Credit Union
  • Brad Houle, CEO, CAHP Credit Union
  • Joseph Schroeder, CEO, Ventura County Credit Union
  • Michael Stankovic, Partner, Mitchell, Stankovic & Associates
  • Additionally, the HE for SHE recipients will also be recognized at the 2019 World Credit Union Conference in the Bahamas.
